Boys Junior Varsity Wrestling, Boys Varsity Wrestling · Congratulations to 3 Granger Wrestlers

Congratulations are in order for 3 of our Granger Wrestlers. Jacob Anderson, Matt Callaway, and Colin Cavender all earned a trip to the GHSA Individual State Tournament in Macon GA this past Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Just earning a spot to this prestigious tournament represented the fact that these 3 are one of the top 16 wrestlers in the entire state for their respective weight classifications. Top 16 out of thousands of other high school wrestlers in that same weight!

Jacob Anderson was LHS’s only medalist – bringing home 4th place for the 160 lb weight class. In his first match Jacob won (6-5) over Jordan McCamish of Nothwest Whitfield. Jacob then moved on to the 2nd round and defeated (10-2) Caden Snell of West Laurens earning a Major Decision. In the quarter finals Jacob was defeated (9-2) by Jabril Williams of Cartersville. This put Jacob on the consolation side of the bracket in the Semifinals where here edged a victory (2-1) over Chris Webb of Flowery Branch. In the 3rd place match Jacob faced Caden Snell again from West Laurens and narrowly lost (3-2) securing 4th place. Other highlights for the season include 4th place at CRWA, 1st place at Landmark Christian Invitational, 2nd place at Gary Silva, 3rd place at Smiths Station, 2nd place at Area, and 8th place at Sectionals. Jacob Anderson finished the season 45-17 with 31 pins.
Colin Cavender represent LHS in the 138 lb weight class in Macon but fell short of placing. Colin lost his 1st match (9-2) to Kason Sellers of Cairo. On the consolation side of the bracket Colin defeated (7-1) Austin Crispo of Blessed Trinity. In the 2nd Consolation round, Colin pinned Ethan Culbreth of Denmark in the 2nd period of their match. Colin moved on to the Conso Quarters to face Charles Hayes of Chapel Hill but was pinned late in the match ending his placement run. Highlights for the season for Colin include 3rd place at CRWA, 3rd place at Landmark Christian Invitational, 1st place at Gary Silva, 4th place at Smiths Station, 2nd place at Bowdon, 3rd place at Area and 6th place at Sectionals. Colin Cavender finished the Season 57-19 with 37 pins.
Matt Callaway represented LHS in the 145 lb weight class at the State tournament but also fell just short of placing. Matt won his first match in 0:37 pinning Pyren Queen of Oconee. In round 2 Matt was defeated 17-2 by Gunner Filiopwicz of Blessed Trinity. On the consolation side of the bracket Matt pinned Troup’s Kullum Irvin early in the 2nd period of their match. Matt moved to the Conso Quarters to face Christopher Green of Baldwin County and sustained a season ending shoulder injury in the last few seconds of the 3rd period of their match. Unable to continue, Matt was prevented from moving on to any placement. Highlights for the season include 3rd place at CRWA and then placing 1st in the Landmark Christian Invitational, Gary Silva, Smiths Station, Bowdon and Area Tournaments. Matt also placed 3rd at Sectionals. Matt Callaway finished the season 68-4 with 57 pins. These amounts set LaGrange High School single season records for both wins and pins.
Congratulations to these 3 young men and all the other Wrestlers who came out for and stuck with Wrestling for the entire season. You are all Champions in my book – be proud that you have the courage to step on the mat and toe the line – nobody can take that from you.
