The Grangers kicked off their Spring Scrimmage against Hardaway this past Thursday in impressive fashion with the Varsity team outscoring Hardaway 21-7 through three-quarters of play. The Granger Defense had a couple of critical errors on Hardaway’s opening drive, each resulting in the Hawks receiving a new set of downs. Hardaway capped off a 9 play drive with a 4th down run from the 3-yard line to take the opening lead. From then on, it was all the LaGrange Grangers. The Granger Varsity and JV finished 3 quarters of play with 257 yards total offense while holding Hardaway’s Varsity to just 131 yards (70 of which came on their opening drive).
Offensively, Senior Charles Crawford completed 8 of 14 passes for 134 yards, 1 TD and no Interceptions. LaGrange’s ground game was heavy and methodical with both Senior Andre Canty and Junior Caleb Ross rushing for a combined 123 yards on 23 carries. Defensively, the Grangers young secondary tested Hardaway’s passing attack. Hardaway completed 4 of 12 passes for 69 yards, 2 sacks, 1 fumble, and a Pick 6 by Senior Charles Miller. The Granger D stifled Hardaway’s ground game as well holding them to just 77 yards on 22 carries through the end of the 3rd quarter.
As agreed, the fourth quarter belonged to LaGrange’s incoming 9th graders and they were tested from the on-set. Hardaway does not have a specific middle school feeder, so they were unable to bring any 8th graders and do not have a Freshmen team. The young Grangers faced off against Hardaway’s JV and some Varsity players. As expected, they were outmatched and outscored 18-0 during the 4th quarter. Hardaway scored on a 33 yard Hail Mary as time expired to complete the scrimmage and technically earn a 25-21 victory for the Hawks.
While seeing the 8th graders disappointed, this was a great opportunity for them to gain priceless experience of just how big and fast high school opponents are in the state of Georgia. We are extremely proud of the way all our Grangers competed and look forward to a promising fall.
